1) What is winter like on the mountain?

Sometimes, during the season, we receive some snow on the mountain, often more than Asheville does!

The cabin is located at 3450 feet in elevation on the south side of a sheltered mountain. So we have sun and shade, and we are high enough to receive extra inches of snow.

Our dark paved road makes it so our driveway and the network of roads leading to the cabin melt more quickly than they would if they were gravel. HOWEVER, when there is any snow on this steep driveway, travel is not advised. Even with chains on your tires, travel can be hazardous, so be careful!

If it snows during your stay (in some years, late November through April can have snow), our recommendation is to stay in and stay cozy by the fire or outside building snowmen and playing in the snow.

If you do venture out, either on foot or by vehicle, your liability is your own.

If snow is expected during your stay, stock up on food and fuel, so that you can stay on the mountain for the duration. Contact us to extend your stay, if needed.

Winter Weather Advisory ❄️
Please note that this property is located at a higher mountain elevation, where snow and ice can be significant during the winter months. Even with a four-wheel-drive or all-wheel-drive vehicle, road conditions can become extremely slick and hazardous. If it snows before or during your stay, access to and from the mountain may be limited or temporarily unavailable until conditions improve. We recommend checking the weather forecast before traveling and preparing accordingly for potential delays or alternate plans.

Travel Insurance Recommended
During the winter months, we ask you to please consider Travel Insurance to protect your vacation investment from potential winter weather events that could prevent access to the home.

2)What about mobile phone reception?

If your cell service is spotty during your stay at the Cabin, we recommend turning on Wifi Calling during your stay.

In the event of an emergency, please know that due to federal law 911 will always connect regardless of what kind of cell reception you have!

3) What about pets?

Note that the owners have allergies to animals and animal care processes, so no animals, including service animals, are allowed at the cabin.

4) What are the house rules?

House Rules and Requests

  1. Up to 8 overnight guests

  2. No pets

  3. No smoking: includes vaping and e-cigarettes

  4. No drugs

  5. Quiet hours: 9 PM-7 AM

  6. No events, unless you have special permission from Sylvan Cabins (contact)

  7. No commercial photography (includes commercial filming)

  8. Don’t leave food or food garbage outside. This is how we keep bears from bothering you at the cabin!

  9. Firearms not permitted on the property.

  10. Please do not pick plants or flowers or disturb wildlife. Please do not disturb the natural environment or take items from the property.

  11. Lock up at checkout: As you are checking out, please lock the two doors to the outside on the main level.

5) Can I make reservations for someone else?

For the comfort and safety of all guests, reservations must be made by the person who will be staying at the property. Third-party bookings (reservations made on behalf of someone else) are not permitted.

6) Will my car make it up the mountain?

Is your car at least front-wheel drive? Most modern cars are. Then, yes, it should make it just fine.

Rear-wheel drive vehicles might have a problem because of the steepness of the road.

7) Any advisories?

If you leave the cabin and the surrounding yard, the mountain property is steep. Depending on the weather, the driveway and trails can be dangerously slick.

For area outside of the cabin and its decks and yard, discuss with your hosts to receive permission prior to exploring. (You can arrange a hosted native plant walk to the creek, for example.) You agree to undertake any explorations, even hosted or with permission, entirely at your own risk.

Please respect the quiet of this natural healing space and keep noise and music to a minimum.

Firearms not permitted on the property.

8) My elderly grandfather is coming. Tell me about accessibility.

The first floor main bedroom is easy to access from a car without stairs.

There is a handrail in the first floor shower.

A toilet stand is available for elderly guests who need rails to get up and down. (Request this from us.)

The kitchen, decks and living room are all accessible without stairs.
